FARRELL, Pa. – A medical marijuana facility coming to Farrell hopes to have plants in the ground by December and to be operating by February.

A promotional video by Farmaceutical Rx paints a promising picture of their plans to renovate two old warehouses on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard into a growing and cultivation campus for medical marijuana.

“We will be creating the medicine here and then it will be distributed around the state through the licensed dispensaries in the State of Pennsylvania,” said Founder and CEO of Farmaceutical Rx Rebecca Myers.

Wednesday night, the team spearheading the project fielded questions from the public touching on everything from security and the science behind the process to research and development and jobs.

“(The jobs) will range in positions from security to delivery teams, to cultivators, organic chemists,” said vice-president of operations Paul Crowder.

Crowder told the audience they plan to hire 40-50 employees during their first wave of hiring with more to follow. He also said they aim to have 75% of their employees work full time with benefits.

Mayor Olive McKeithan didn’t want to go on camera but, told 21 News that while she supports the jobs the facility plans to bring to the area, she has some reservations considering Farrell’s stigma with drugs.

Those who spoke with 21 News on their way out of the meeting felt positive about the company’s plans and future.

“I am very impressed with the high caliber of people doing this program,” said Marcia Moyer of Sharon.

“It’s been a long time coming. I think it’s finally time Farrell gets something like this,” said Natasha Robinson of Farrell. “I’m also hoping a lot of people in Farrell will get these jobs.”

The company plans to hold a job fair in early November. A date has not yet been set.
